Fall is all about finding ways to stay comfortable and cozy as the weather starts to cool down and the leaves begin to change. Picture this- you’re curled up on your couch, the fireplace is lit, you’re wrapped up in a blanket with a good book, and you have a mug of something tasty to sip on. Looking for some inspiration on how to make your home feel extra cozy this fall? Check out our top 10 ways to get the house ready for one of the best times of the year!
1. Warm Candles
One of our favorite ways to cozy up the house is to get a handful of fall scented candles and scatter them around. There’s nothing like some sweet pumpkin pie and apple pie scents to get you in the fall mood! Put them in areas where you spend the most time, such as the family room or your bedroom, and light one as you settle in for the day.
2. Cuddle by the Fire
As fall comes and temperatures drop, you’ll find yourself reaching for cozy sweaters and fuzzy socks to keep warm. If you have a fireplace in your home, stock up on firewood and get a fire going! There are few things better than watching a scary movie or reading a good book with a warm fire going. Don’t have a fireplace? Pull up a video of a fireplace on YouTube! While it won’t provide warmth, it can do wonders for creating that cozy ambience.
3. Cozy Throws
One great addition to that scene of snuggling by the fire with a good movie or captivating book is a cute throw blanket! We love a throw that provides a balance between being cozy and comfortable, and also being a beautiful piece to display in your home. Customize a throw to perfectly fit you or your family, and toss it over the back of an armchair or sofa for easy snuggling access!
4. Time for Baking
I don't know about you, but when fall comes, I get a serious hankering to start baking some treats. Whether you’re whipping up some pie for a get together with family and friends or you’re craving some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pulling out your favorite fall treat recipes and baking something special is sure to cozy up your home.
5. Swap Out Bedding
Depending on where you live, things can get pretty chilly, and you may find yourself in need of some winter bedding to get you through those cold nights. Swap out your sheets for something made of flannel or fleece. You might even consider switching your comforter for something thicker. While seemingly small, this is an easy change that is sure to get you feeling cozy.
6. Warm Beverages
Between the apple cider and the pumpkin spice lattes, perhaps one of our favorite ways to get into the fall spirit is to get some yummy, warm beverages in all of the best fall flavors. Get creative and try recreating some of your favorites at home! It could be as simple as some hot chocolate in the microwave or making a special concoction with your french press. This is a great way to make some use of your favorite mugs!
7. Soft Lighting
As the day turns into evening and you start winding down for the night, instead of turning on all of the lights in the house, consider scattering some floor lamps and table lamps throughout your home and turning those on instead. This will create a comfortable ambiance with soft lighting. Turn on some music, grab a book and one of those tasty fall beverages we were just talking about, and settle in for the evening.
8. Incorporate Fall Colors
You know the colors I’m talking about- deep maroon, plum, hues of orange and brown and green, all scream fall when combined together. Consider what you can do to incorporate these colors into your home to get into the spirit of things. Whether it’s through a new table setting, sprigs of faux greenery or even some new curtains, get creative and put some of these fun colors in your home.
9. Seasonal Decor
Whether you’re going for a general sense of fall or you’re wanting to go all out for Halloween, getting some seasonal decor is a sure way to get you in the spirit of things. Arrange some pumpkins on your porch, hang a fall wreath, and hang some garlands of leaves. We’ll also call that little bowl of Halloween candy on your kitchen counter seasonal decor!
10. Cozy Pillows
Can you ever have enough throw pillows? The answer is no. With so many options to choose from, this is an easy way to incorporate fall. Get some pillows with leaves and pumpkins embroidered on them, pillows in solid fall colors, or even pillows knit with chunky yarn for that extra cozy feel. Scatter them across your sofa and the beds in your home to share the fall love with your whole family!
